1. Whether retiring or separating, be certain to get your copy of the current Federal Benefits for Veterans and Dependents from the Department of Veterans Affairs. You can view or download a copy from their web site.

2. Military - Civilian Career Coaching Connection (MC4)

The Military-Civilian Career Coaching Connection (MC4) group, recently
launched in December 2010, was created and developed for transitioning
personnel by veteran Bob Dixon. This transition focused group offers free
membership to all active duty personnel within 12 months of
separation/retirement. Each separating service member is teamed up with a
participating civilian leader/manager or senior executive who will utilize
their expertise in developing personnel to provide coaching and mentoring
assistance throughout the transition period. Coaching is delivered via
on-line discussions or one-on-one phone sessions in which the separating
member will receive assistance in creating/modifying resumes, instruction on
interview preparation and valuable feedback which will put the member on the
road to a successful transition back to civilian life.

The process takes some planning! Retirees are encouraged to participate in Transition activities as early as 24 months before their planned retirement. To get started, register for the Pre-Separation Briefing. It does not commit you to retiring or a retirement date if you change your mind. Take a look at the recommended timeline to plan it all out. See below for more information.

Separatees
The process takes some planning! Those that are thinking about separating from the Air Force are encouraged to participate in Transition activities as early as 12 months before they are due to separate. To get started, register for the Pre-Separation Briefing. It does not commit you to separating, so you can always re-enlist later if you change your mind. If you are separating on a short notice or are going through a MEB, contact us right away to schedule a one-on-one Pre-Separation Briefing. Take a look at the recommended timeline to plan it all out. See below for more information.

TAP/DTAP Workshops
TAP Workshops are hosted by the Airman and Family Readiness Center and facilitated by Department of Labor staff. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: resume writing, interviewing skills, job search, dressing for success, networking, and veterans benefits (provided by DVA representative).

Disabled Transition Assistance Program - DTAP is a briefing sponsored by the Department of Veteran Affairs, in conjunction with the Department of Defense. It may be offered following our VA Benefits Briefing during our TAP workshop. Call us at (530) 634-2863 for more information.

Wounded Warrior Program
Air Force Wounded Warrior Program (AFW2) was developed to ensure Airmen disabled as a result of service in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom receives appropriate transitional support. Enhanced transition assistance services include one-on-one pre-separation counseling, one-on-one VA benefits and DTAP Counseling, and personal assistance in completing and submitting a VA disability claim. About the Transition Assistance Program
The goal of Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is to equip separating and retiring military and civilian personnel and their families with the skills and knowledge necessary for a smooth, successful transition into the private sector.

The emphasis of the program is on preparation rather than job placement. The program is cosponsored by the Department of Defense, Department of Labor and Department of Veterans Affairs.
